Rowling has said in several interviews that two characters were killed in this book which she hadn't intended to die while one got a reprieve.

Anyone know who these characters are or ideas on who they are?

i'm assuming that the one who got a reprieve was harry, just from some other stuff i read.

not sure on the two which she hadn't intended. fred, tonks, and lupin seemed so... casual. dobby dying had a point in the plot (to keep them from finding out about dumbledore's brother quite then) as did snape's (the whole wand thing) that she might not have planned in advance, so maybe she was referring to them?

well that article also pegs Lupin as the unintended death A. I'm guessing Tonks as the other personally

I'm not sure about Fred having no point in the plot, since Percy happened to be there at the moment that it happened, in effect giving the Weasleys' one son back and taking another. I did notice on my second read-through that Fred is extremely present in this book. JK did a little sleight-of-hand at the beginning of the book with George and his ear, and I'm sure some people probably took that as a sign the ever vocal twins were "safe". Through Fred, Percy came back just in time to realize how important his family was to him, and how precious every minute of life can be.

For my own part, I'm just glad he died laughing.
He'd better have.

Remus Lupin made sense, but I'd guess the two "Oops, killed 'em" would be Fred Weasley and Dora Lupin

I remember reading on JKs site I think that she always knew that Fred would be the twin to die, so I'm guessing not him.
